Mana Map Editor: Alpha Sneak Peek
I’m thrilled to share a first look at the upcoming Hack of Mana Map Editor! Below is a screenshot from the current build, and here’s what it can already do (or is just about to):
What’s in the toolbox
- Create & edit 8×8 tiles
Pixel-level control with a clean, responsive workflow. - Build & manage 8×8 tilesets
Add, reorder, and refine tilesets without leaving the editor. - Create & edit 16×16 tilesets
Compose larger tiles from your 8×8 pieces with snap-smart placement. - Create & edit Map Layers with an efficient compressor
Save space while keeping maps fast to load and easy to share. - Edit collisions
Paint collision flags directly onto your 16×16 tileset to fine-tune gameplay. - Live map view while editing layers
See exactly how your changes affect the full map in real time. - Create & edit objects
Place interactive elements (monsters, NPCs…) with metadata you control. - Create & edit triggers & doors
Wire up events, transitions, and logic without touching raw data.
(See the attached screenshot for a glimpse of the current UI.)

Looking for early testers 👀
I’m opening an alpha to a handful of aspiring mappers who want to help shape the editor. If you love building worlds, poking at edge cases, and giving practical feedback, I’d love to have you on board.
Interested? Leave a comment or send me a message and tell me:
- your mapping/ROM-hacking experience (beginner is totally fine!),
- your OS setup,
- what you’d like to build first with the editor.
Thanks for being part of this—can’t wait to see the maps you create!
Hey, thanks for making this project happen, it’s extremely cool already from the listed features! I grew up playing this game and I’d love to help alpha test the Editor by building out some alt Palace layouts. I’m also curious to see how viable a larger version of the Sandship might be, as an homage to the Airship dungeon in FF Adventure…
Hi Jack, thank you for your comment. I suppose Tomm already send you the link of the editor. I’ve check your blog and your webapps editor, it’s quite impresive. I’d love to make my editor as a webapps too. I hope you’ll like the editor but it’s still in aplha so we except some little crashes 🙂 I’d like to talk with you and I can’t wait to see your SOM maps!
